Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency

A tax credit can provide you significant savings by reducing the amount of income tax you have to pay. This is especially true from January 1, 2006, through December 31, 2007, because the government will allow you a tax credit for special products that meet Energy Star or IECC1 requirements. Tax credits apply to the actual products and not to installation. The combined total of all tax credits is $500 within the two year period.

Tax credits are available for a number of products at the highest efficiency levels. If you decide not to purchase a product covered by a tax credit “still consider purchasing an Energy Star product. Energy Star distinguishes energy efficient products which, although they may cost more to purchase than standard models, will pay you back in lower energy bills within a reasonable amount of time, without a tax credit” 2.

We are able to offer you Energy Star rated replacement windows, sunroom skylights, metal roofing, and exterior doors. The credits applicable to each product are as follows:

Replacement Windows - A tax credit of 10% of the cost up to $200 3 for all windows and skylights.

Exterior Doors - The tax credit is 10% up to a maximum of $500.

Metal Roofing - The allowable tax credit is 10% of the cost up to $500 3.

The Federal Government offers tax credits for other energy savings products such as various heating and cooling equipment, water heaters, solar water heaters, some autos, storm doors, insulation, and fuel cells.
